Ma'aseh Tuviyah 300 !

In Venice 300 years ago was published for the first time, Ma'aseh Tuviyah, the life work of the Jewish physician Tobias Cohen (Metz, 1652 - Jerusalem, 1729). On the occasion of this anniversary, a group of Baroque Music, Ritmo Anima, and a historian of medicine, Etienne (Eytan) Lepicard, joined together to (re)create his personal saga through an innovative performance combining music and narrative. This blog presents our work and information about related events. For more, see at bottom.

Le projet

A musical journey in the footsteps of the Jewish physician Tuvia Cohen (1659 – 1729) –
Celebrating 300 years since the publishing of his book “Ma’ase Tuvya”
This international group of acclaimed musicians, accompanied by an historical presentation – is presenting the fascinating and moving story of the life and work of the Jewish physician Tuvya Cohen – as a musical journey – depicting scenes and sounds from his life’s travels :
From the family’s origins in Zefad – through France – his birth place, to Italy’s north – Padova and Venice – formative locations in his life – to Turkey - and at the end of the cycle – returning to Jerusalem.
The aim of this project – apart from bringing back to life this outstanding story by a vivid musical testimony of the times and places in which it occured – is to take this whole exceptional initiative to the locations where it happened and tell the story in each of those places. Meaning – performing and telling the story of Tuvya Cohen in concerts and festivals in France (Metz) , Germany (Frankfurt), Italy (Padova and Venice) , Poland (Krakow) , Turkey and Israel (Jerusalem).
With the uniqueness of this program and the historical value of it –it would be a loss to not have it recorded and well documented - by a musical record and possibly also a documentary film. (a financial proposal for the recording attached*)The program is already scheduled to perform at the most prestigious national radio broadcast (with a live broadcast – “Etnachta – The voice of music”) at November 9th 2009 , and was the headline performance at the Yehiam Early Music Festival , October 2008.
